DownBeat described Swedish saxophonist Fredrik Kronkvist on his New York Elements recording with Aaron Goldberg, Reuben Rogers and Gregory Hutchinson as having ‘the right amount of kick and swagger to suggest an element of danger as well as surprise and musical cohesion’. With a Masters in Fine Arts from the Malmö College of Music, Kronkvist has established himself as a serious talent in Europe with nearly 20 albums as a leader. He has also made inroads in the New York scene with recordings with the likes of Jason Marsalis, Antonio Sanchez, Marcus Strickland and the legendary Jeff ‘Tain’ Watts. Tonight he shows us his quartet chops with a completely fresh rhythm section and local trumpeter Sakhile Simani as guest.
