The Rondebosch Boys’ High School Jazz Band, conducted by Marc de Kock, has built up an enviable reputation over the past 15 years for delivering music of a high standard. The band plays a mix of standard big band repertoire and arrangements of South African jazz and many former members have gone on to study music locally and abroad, and are now active professionals in the music world. The Band has also been a regular performer at the NYJF and over the years many players have been selected to play in the National Schools Jazz Band.

Stirling High’s Jazz Band, conducted by Kyle du Preez, was formed in 1992 and has performed in 26 towns around the country, with over 80 students selected to the national band over the years. The band has also toured internationally to Zimbabwe, Namibia, Holland, Germany and Britain, and is proud of the number of past members who are still active in South African jazz. The repertoire consists mainly of interesting arrangements of classic charts and South African compositions in a standard big band format.
