Ithemba Elitsha (A new hope) is a rich tapestry of sound that inspires infinite hope for a better future for humanity, produced by Lumanyano ‘Mzi’ Bizana as his debut solo project. The project captures the complexity of his personal journey through music while reflecting on a world that is in constant flux in the search for meaning and healing. Ithemba Elitsha merges the old and the contemporary, evoking a warm nostalgia by paying homage to the rich musical heritage of our country’s jazz and township sounds while looking ahead into the world through global and modern sonic influences. Drummer and composer Mzi was born and raised in Cape Town, where his music was shaped by the sounds of reggae, jazz, African music and gospel around him. He studied jazz at UCT and recently graduated from the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. Accompanying him are musical friends he made at Berklee from around the world.
