Woezor is a 7-piece Afro-Roots ensemble born in 2024 out of Rhodes University’s vibrant music scene. With members hailing from across South Africa and Zimbabwe, the group draws on deep cultural threads to craft a rooted and resonant sound.
Their name, meaning 'welcome' in Ghana’s Ewe language, reflects their musical ethos: inviting audiences into a rich blend of marimba, mbira, and layered percussion infused with township pop, roots reggae, and traditional African melodies.
From iconic tracks like Brenda Fassie’s Weekend Special to ancestral songs like Sango, Woezor’s repertoire bridges generations with rhythm and soul. Each performance celebrates unity, heritage, and the collective joy of music-making.
Woezor debuts at the National Arts Festival with a show grounded in tradition, with groove, and alive with pan-African spirit.
