My long lost father
Walter Sisulu University BCC
Theatre / City Hall

This production focuses on a young man who makes the decision to go and live with his long-lost father after a deer told him the reason things aren't going well in his life is because there are certain rituals his father should have done for him.

On his arrival, his father is cold towards him, until he learns that he is a graduate. He agrees to do all the necessary rituals for him to get a job. Despite that, the young man doesn’t receive a call from any of the places he submitted his CV.

It is then that his father’s true nature is revealed. He mistreats the young man, and speaks badly to him and about him. The boy's stepmother adds fuel to the fire by reminding him of all the money they wasted doing the rituals for him hoping he would get a job.

In a drunken state the father reveals to the son that he never believed that he was his child, and now that the rituals have failed to work, he is sure. The two get into a heated argument about this, and it is at that moment that the boy’s mother arrives. A confrontation happens between mother and father while the son and the stepmother look on.
