Bedroom Chats is a darkly comic and tragic two hander exploring the emotional decay of a long-term marriage, between Abigail and George who are both successful individuals. The couple has invested a lot in their matrimonial union in terms of properties and financial resources, but very little when it comes to emotional connection.
Set entirely within the four walls of a shared bedroom, the play dissects the intimate cruelty, absurdity, and quiet desperation of two people bound by love, law, and fear. Through razor-sharp dialogue, awkward silences, social media and absurd domestic rituals, the production offers a raw and satirical reflection on the institution of marriage, how it can both sustain and destroy those within it.
With a tense and darkly comic series of exchanges that blur the line between love and hatred, desire and destruction, they each hatch an evil plan which they think will liberate them from the other. And when finally both their schemes collide, their world implodes in a tragic and ironic twist leaving the audience to reflect on the fine line between dependency and doom.

Mashupe Phala is a theatre maker, writer and director whose work explores human relationships, emotional duality, and socialcomplexity through sharp dialogue and visual simplicity. Mashupe has experience of more than 28 years as a theatre maker, he has toured around the country and other parts of SADC region with his shows. With Bedroom Chats, Mashupe brings an unflinching gaze to the dark side of domestic life, crafting a play that is intimate as it is unsettling.
