Nate Levinrad
Comedy / Graham Hotel

Nate Levinrad is one of the most compelling new voices in South African stand-up - sharp, silly and self-aware. In his debut one-man show, directed by South African comedy legend Conrad Koch, Nate traces the messy, hilarious, and often contradictory experience of growing up white and liberal in a conservative small town.

Through a mix of storytelling, satire, and disarming honesty, Nate unpacks his coming-of-age journey: navigating race relations as a kid who didn’t quite fit (thanks to an isiXhosa second name and anarcho-communist parents), wrestling with addiction and alcoholism in early adulthood, and transforming traumatic childhood moments into something unexpectedly funny.

This isn’t trauma porn, nor is it political posturing. It’s a comic excavation of how a person becomes a person, and how humour can light the way through the dark. If you think what he has to say is uncomfortable, imagine what the average childhood dinner was like for him? Raw, thoughtful, and laugh-out-loud funny, this debut marks the arrival of a comedian with something to say and a fresh way of saying it.
