In the heart of township, rhythm and notes make up keys of sound to talk to hearts and souls.
Traditional Marimba instruments form the base of the flow, and welcome contemporary pantsola dancers, electrifying traditional dancers and a spoken word poet.
Rhythms of the motherland bring together the vibrant pulse of marimba, that makes room for other instruments. Wood, steel, drum and rhyme. It evokes and awakens connections to the African and western melodies, both as inspiration and musical roots.
The rhythms and melodies draw from laid back, contemporary classic sound and the newer South African-based African pop. It is time to celebrate, dance, and move. Opening with “Moribo wa Afrika” a soft marimba becomes stronger, then increasing the pace with “Rhythmic encounter” where a drum kit rhythm is introduced and sweeps marimba right to the soul. In “Rhythmic Community” a djembe player starts a drumming polyrhythmic fusion, inviting the audience to join the band. With "Caribbean-African Fusion" steelpan sound is cheered in, and the beauty of cultural sound exchange is highlighted in "Cultural Heritage". A poet and dancers grace the final showdown in a powerful celebration where African rhythm comes alive.
