In a desolate land built from tin cans and plastic scraps, survival is a daily act of resistance. There is no water, no electricity, and no promise of service or care, only the Law, a merciless system that forces citizens to move endlessly, evicted from one settlement to the next without reason or warning.

At the center of this world is a family constantly on the run. Each time they build a fragile sense of home, the law arrives to tear it apart, declaring the land forbidden and the people illegal. Homes are dismantled overnight, memories left behind among rusted metal and melting plastic.

As eviction after eviction erodes their dignity and hope, the family begins to question whether law is meant to control land, or to erase the people who live on it. In a world designed to keep its citizens rootless and silent, their struggle becomes a quiet rebellion: the fight to belong, to stay, and to exist.

Abednigo Moruti Dhlamini is a dynamic young South African theatre maker and independent director whose career began in the arts at an early age, and has steadily grown into one of the country’s most distinctive voices in contemporary theatre. Dhlamini first stepped onto the stage as a teenager, drawn to storytelling as both a means of expression and resistance. Over the years, he has honed his craft not only as a director but also as a playwright, creating original works that confront social realities with honesty and poetic force. His directing style blends physical theatre, puppetry, and grounded realism, often drawing from township narratives and the lived experiences of marginalised communities. His breakthrough came with Tau, a powerful production that earned him an Ovation Gold Award at the National Arts Festival (NAF) and later swept three Naledi Theatre Awards. The success of Tau established him as a performer to watch on the independent circuit. As a director he continued this momentum with Stevovo The Puppeteer, a landmark work that garnered another Ovation Award at NAF and a Naledi Award for Best Lead Actor, marking a career highlight for Dhlamini as a director. As a writer and director, Dhlamini’s body of work explores identity, struggle, and survival with unflinching clarity. Notable plays include Upside-down, Spider Web, Isilwani Esimyama, Untitled Deeds, Hangman’s Noose, and Flames from a Spoja. Each title reflects his commitment to telling stories that are often overlooked but deeply felt. Today, Dhlamini stands as a leading independent voice in South African theatre, known for creating work that is both artistically bold and socially urgent. His career is defined by a refusal to compromise on truth and a belief that theatre can be a space for both healing and resistance.
