Liminal
Prestige School of Dance
Dance & Physical Theatre / PJ'S

LIMINAL is a dance production that explores movement in its most elemental form, using a fusion of neo-classical ballet, traditional modern dance, and ethnic dance techniques to embody the liminal spaces between what dance was, what dance is, and what dance is yet to become.

Over time, dance has evolved from highly structured technical forms into a more interdisciplinary art form, often blending with theatre, music, and multimedia to prioritise narrative and conceptual storytelling. LIMINAL exists within this space of transition: between tradition and transformation, purity and fusion, structure and freedom, Western and African dance forms. While acknowledging the evolution of the art form, the work intentionally returns to the foundational essence of dance, where technique, form, and physicality remain the primary language of expression.

LIMINAL explores the space between one moment and the next - between stillness and movement, the familiar and the unknown. The work lives in that in-between place where boundaries begin to dissolve, and new forms of expression can emerge. Through choreography, music, and deeply expressive movement, LIMINAL reflects on the uncertainty and beauty of change in dance, the arts, and life itself, inviting audiences to find meaning in transition.

Built around the core elements of dance: Space, Time, and Energy, LIMINAL draws from classical ballet, traditional modern dance techniques and African contemporary.  Each style is honoured individually, allowing movement itself to take centre stage.

LIMINAL is a celebration of pure movement - technical, visceral, and deeply rooted in the essence of dance.
