The Rise Of Nkosi Jongumsobomvu Maqoma

This historical story is about Jongumsobomvu Maqoma, a chief and a military leader, who played a significant role in the Cape Frontier Wars against British colonisers. Born in 1798, he was the right-hand son of Ngqika, King of the Rharhabe Xhosa nation. He was renowned for his guerrilla tactics, particularly in the Waterkloof region, where he frustrated British forces. His leadership spanned 40 years, and he was involved in three Xhosa wars including the War of Mlanjeni in 1850 -1853.
