THE VERY BIG COMEDY SHOW IS BACK.
AND IT HAS ABSOLUTELY LOST THE PLOT.
After a year away — during which South African audiences coped admirably, if not entirely convincingly — The Very Big Comedy Show is returning to Makhanda with the most stacked, most premium, most frankly excessive comedy line-up the Festival has ever seen. This is not a comeback. This is a statement.
One stage. One night. The absolute best of South African comedy — assembled together in a way that should, by all rights, be illegal. If you are serious about comedy, if you have ever described yourself as a fan of anyone on this bill, if you have a functioning sense of humour and access to a ticket — this is non-negotiable.
Rob Van Vuuren returns as host — and The Very Big Comedy Show is his only performance at NAF 2026. One night. One stage. One Rob. A comedian so reliably, devastatingly good that his name alone is sufficient reason to buy tickets!
Alfred Adriaan headlines — and this, too, is his only appearance at NAF 2026. Fresh from a sold out tour of Australia & New Zealand, Alfred has become one of the most exciting and unpredictable comic voices in the country, Alfred on stage is not an event you recount the next day — it is an event you are still processing the next week.
THE LINE-UP — BECAUSE ONE LEGEND WAS NEVER GOING TO BE ENOUGH
Khanyisa Bunu: Home ground advantage has never been wielded so confidently. Makhanda is her territory and she knows exactly what to do with it — expect a comedian absolutely in her element, on the stage that makes the most sense for her, in front of a crowd that is already on her side before she opens her mouth.
Chris Mapane: More punchlines than a boxing gym and a delivery to match — Mapane is relentless, sharp, and constitutionally incapable of leaving a room in anything other than stitches. If comedy had a highlights reel, his sets would require their own dedicated server.
Yaaseen Barnes: Making a special appearance — because when the show is this big, you call in the good ones. Yaaseen brings wit, warmth, and the kind of crowd-reading ability that makes audiences feel like he wrote the set specifically for them. He didn't. It just feels that way.
Conrad Koch, Chester Missing & Friends: The award-winning ventriloquist brings not just Chester Missing — South Africa's most politically engaged puppet and best-dressed non-human — but some of Conrad's extended puppet family. More characters. More chaos. More of the brilliance that has made this act one of the most celebrated in the country. Truly a cast within a cast.
Stuart Taylor: Award-winning stand-up, former magician, and man of considerable science. Buckets of charm, relentlessly funny, and always — always — a treat. Stuart has been a festival favourite long enough to qualify as a permanent fixture, and shows absolutely no signs of becoming less hilarious with age. If anything, the opposite.
Plus many more. Additional performers to be announced — because a show this size doesn't reveal all its cards at once.
This is the premium comedy experience of NAF 2026. Makhanda's biggest stage. South Africa's biggest names. One night only.
