About the Artists

Bhekumzi (Mzi SA) Songxishe was born on the 15th of April 1996 in Tsomo (KwaNtsume) and bred in Komani. He is an extra ordinary Afropop/Soul musician, as much as he is a brilliant vocalist, poet and actor, and has taken it upon himself to nurture up-coming talent in the region of Komani (Chris Hani District) by organising music and drama events around the town to get everyone engaged in the arts.

As a young boy growing up in the rurals Mzi SA fell in love with the sound of a guitar and

started developing an interest and love for arts at a very young age. This started as a joke to him, when he used to gather with his friends, singing traditional songs and dancing, which ended up being a solo singer in the school Choir and entering competitions for school.

His talent was recognised by the Department Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture officials, who then organised events and gave him a platform to showcase his talent. In one of the many events he performed in, he was lucky enough to be spotted by the director of the movie "Mabona" who immediately added him to his cast. He has graced many stages, rubbing shoulders with important artists in the South African arts fraternity.

He then entered a competition that was organised by ECAVC Records (Eastern Cape Audio Visual Centre) for all Eastern Cape Artists. He came 6th out of the 50 musicians that made it to the finals. He was then given an opportunity to record a single song and was given a platform to perform at the prestigious National Arts Festival.

Following that, he entered a competition called SHOWVILLE that was broadcast on SABC 2. It was a great experience with a global reach. Mzi SA also graced stages all over the country, including Macufe Festival, Zingce Arts Festival, Chris Hani Jazz Festival, Tenza Beachfront, Umtiza Arts Festival, Izwi Leembongi Festival, and Udaba Dance Festival.

Mzi SA shared his art when he trained students in high schools and primary schools in the Chris Hani District. He saw that through his hard work students were excelling in arts and in subjects that are related to arts.

Mzi SA was invited to be part of the Eastern Cape Ensemble, a group of artists that are selected from all over the Eastern Cape to showcase different artforms and cultures. They featured at the National Arts Festival and he was spotted by the founder of the Ikusasa Arts Development who then added Mzi SA to his cast and did a production called ZAZI, which toured around the Eastern Cape. Mzi SA was also called to another production, UMZILA, where he was given the duty to compose the music for the production. After that Mzi SA was requested by ECAVC Records to record another single.

He was invited to perform at The Fort Hare Gala Dinner where he wowed the crowd. Mzi SA is currently signed to Twala Bros Productions and has released his first official single song called Isiqalo Sobomi, which has already helped him perform at the Vusi Nova Black Tie Event (Emperors Palace 2025) and has just finished Eziko Village Tour.
