Death of Spaza is inspired by the attacks that occur between community members and the Somalians in every township due to the so-called outsiders owning the majority of spaza shops.

The film is focused on a twenty-five-year-old lady called Nonkululeko who is planning a trip to Cuba and getting married to her long-time lover. Her boyfriend too has been putting pressure on her to join him in Cuba due to the job opportunity he got offered. She pleads with him to give her time to tell her stubborn father about the departure.
