Walk With Art 2026
The Black Power Station
The Black Power Station Session / Steve Biko Seminar Rooms

Following the powerful success of last year’s experience, the award-winning Makhanda Wild Hikers Crew and The Black Power Station proudly bring back Walk With Art for 2026, an unforgettable creative journey through the streets, landscapes, and cultural spirit of Makhanda during the National Arts Festival.

Beginning at Rhodes Music Radio at the Steve Biko Building, participants will move through the historic and artistic heartbeat of the city, stopping at Amazwi South African Museum of Literature before arriving at the vibrant home of revolutionary creativity, The Black Power Station.

This is more than a walk, it is a moving celebration of art, nature, healing, and human connection. Along the route, audiences will encounter live performances, poetry, music, storytelling, visual installations, and spontaneous artistic moments that transform the landscape into a living canvas.

Walk With Art 2026 invites tourists, locals, artists, hikers, thinkers, and dreamers to slow down and experience Makhanda differently  through movement, reflection, and collective creativity.

As The Black Power Station celebrates 12 years of revolutionary art, this year’s walk continues to honour the legacy of Tasco by walking in his passionate and rhythmic footsteps — turning the streets into spaces of imagination, dialogue, and cultural unity.

Your Step Matters

Your donation directly supports the Makhanda Wild Hikers Crew through the purchase of fully equipped hiking backpacks and First Aid kits, helping to protect and grow the hiking community for future adventures and cultural experiences.

Proceeds will also support The Black Power Station in securing permanent transport wheels and strengthening connections with festival walkers throughout the June/July Festival season.

This Year’s Theme

This year, Walk With Art 2026 calls on visual artists, writers, musicians, performers, and cultural thinkers to explore the connections between mental health, spirituality, nature, artistic expression, and healing.

Through performances, installations, exhibitions, and public artistic interventions, we investigate how creativity can restore, unite, and liberate communities.
