About the Artists
Lipato Shogole is a multidisciplinary artist, chef, umlimi, filmmaker, and cultural practitioner based in the Eastern Cape, South Africa. His work is rooted in indigenous knowledge systems, exploring the intersections of food design, land, memory, identity, and cultural restoration.
With a background in clothing and textile design, Lipato brings a design-led, research-driven approach to food, storytelling, and community practice, treating food as both a creative medium and a cultural archive. He creates immersive food and cultural experiences, films, and community projects that revive indigenous food practices and knowledge. Through his work, he aims to spark intergenerational dialogue, celebrate African edible landscapes, build community-based food economies, and use food as a tool for storytelling, healing, and cultural preservation.
