For the first time,The FAM JAM became part of the festival experience at The Black Power Station.
THE FAM JAM is a gathering that takes place throughout the year during the third week of every month, bringing together the TBPS family to share food, music, poetry, stories, and creative exchange. It has become a space where artists, neighbours, and friends connect, collaborate, and grow together. This year, while staying true to our promise of gathering monthly, we are bringing a special Festival Edition of The FAM JAM into the heart of the National Arts Festival.
More than an open mic,The FAM JAM is a creative gathering where artists, audiences, and the extended TBPS family come together to share food, stories, music, poetry, movement, and ideas. It is a space where festival artists can connect, collaborate, and build new creative relationships across disciplines.
Visiting artists are invited to use this time as an informal rehearsal, exchange, and development space, a chance to test ideas, share works in progress, and engage with fellow artists and festival oers. Local artists will also be part of the experience, bringing their music, poetry, theatre, monologues, dance, graffiti, and spoken word into the circle.
Throughout the afternoon, The Black Power Station will come alive with the spirit of uBuntu as musicians jam, poets share verses, readers open books, dancers move freely, and conversations unfold around the warmth of eBuhlanti. Food and drinks will be available from the TBPS kitchen, creating a relaxed space for conversation, creativity, and connection.
The FAM JAM is about creating family through creativity, a space where artists and audiences meet beyond the stage, where collaborations begin, and where everyone has something to contribute. Whether you are a performer, a festival visitor, or a member of the local community, The FAM JAM invites you to be part of the experience.
Festival tickets for the evening performance can be purchased through the National Arts Festival website or at the door on the day of the event.
The day concludes with a special live ticketed performance by Jabulile Majola at 9pm, bringing a day of creativity, collaboration, and community to a powerful and memorable close.
