WOMXN WARRIOR.
Dance & Physical Theatre / PJ'S

This piece explores the myriad of roles lived, portrayed and performed by women. She performs many characters in her lifetime, floating between them seamlessly.

This production takes a feminist stance, and this importance is shown, as it establishes an inner circle as a sacred space for women, made up of womxn, in the performance space. The males are allowed inside, but as distant observers of the space of the female experience. Not having womxn's  existences, lived / performed in relation to, or proximity to the male presence. It is about the respect of her sacred space, and all that she is.

LIFE-GIVER amplified, being the movement and a voices of all womxn

CHILD The child, the free spirit, the little girl inside all of us that we must always nurture, and keep alive. Through dance, expression, the freedom of the little girl inside us, whom we always must honour is characterised

LIONNESS Fierce protector. Warrior Queen. King. Able to channel her masculine energy. Wise. The aforementioned character traits of womxn are celebrated.

Builders. Nation builders. It looks at their struggles in these roles, imposed onto them by society, and looks at their triumphs over harsh conditions, in these roles.

From conforming themselves to fit into the moulds of what others thought was the right way for them to live, to breaking free from these moulds and emerging triumphant. Even though the stories ended up victoriously, the scars still remained to serve as a reminder of where they had come from. Women often bare their pain in silence, concealing it from the world whilst bearing heavy burdens. Forced roles, versus ‘freedom’…perceived… Imposed gender roles - seeing freedom, dreaming, freedom, breaking free, from archaic versus modern roles and performativity, through memory. The roles are portrayed, one by one. At these times, the other performers become supporting roles to the other characters.

This performance is a celebration and a reclamation of her identity.
