Theatre / Rehearsal Room

In recent years, South Africa has been faced with natural disasters that have ravaged different communities around the country. These disasters vary from heat waves causing droughts & water-shedding to heavy thunderstorms that cause floods leading to loss of human and animal lives. They all have one common denominator, Climate Change. Furthermore, they have become a very serious threat to food security for the nation.

“Bra Jerry”, an 80-year-old homeless man who is a former liberation soldier and a comrade of Nelson Mandela is seated at a street corner in the heart of Johannesburg. He is reminiscing about his past while taking breaks and reading his newspaper.

The stories in Bra Jerry’s newspaper include some disturbing articles that talk about the tragedies of heavy thunderstorms & floods, extremely high temperatures, freezing temperatures and disasters caused by human error that have ravaged different parts of the country. These stories are told by the artists on stage through an exhilarating theatrical journey filled with traditional dance, drumming and music as special ingredients, with Tata Mandela as their inspiration along the way.

This play is suitable for all ages because of its energetic dances, colourful costumes & props, drumming, melodic and rhythmic music.
