Fallen (and I can't get up)
Alan Parker
Dance & Physical Theatre / Rehearsal Room

The work playfully and poignantly explores the notion of a ‘comfort zone’ – those literal and figurative spaces and places we retreat to when we feel threatened or when we need to feel safe.

As a performer, the floor has always been a kind of ‘comfort zone’ for me. As a younger dancer and choreographer, I loved working on the floor – rolling, sliding, and tumbling around. However, now as an older performer, I increasingly find the floor less comfortable on my body, and find myself making work that engages less and less with the floor. “Fallen (and I can’t get up)” considers our changing relationships with our various comfort zones and safe spaces and explores how these necessary spaces might hinder rather than hold us, and what we might need to do when our spaces of solace no longer do what they are meant to do.
