Iculo lika Mama
Neahtyah and Zuko Yigi

Iculo likaMama simply translated as my mother’s song, is a musical experience that seeks to celebrate the essence of womanhood. This production uses jazz as a spectacle through which the stature of women can be accentuated.

Central to the experience, there is a solemn moment dedicated to remembering and honouring our mothers: the struggle heroines and those who live on the other side. This moment is carried out through the activity of penning letters of hope and wishes as prayers for the good things we want to see happen in their lives.

Essentially, the experience is therapeutic and meditative. In this exercise, it is envisaged that the wishes will be granted in time. Our commitment is that we take the notes with us and play through them as a way to move forward and be there for our people throughout their stages of seeking healing and restoration.
