Yesterday's Hero

Yesterday’s Hero is a hilarious one-man comedy about the ups and downs of being almost famous! From local radio comedian to jet setting beer trolley pusher and finally a soap opera doctor. Follow minor celebrity “Patrick” as he moves up and down the ladder of fame and fortune. Directed by multi-award winning comedian Aaron McIlroy and written and performed by 2020 Ovation winner Patrick Kenny.

Aaron McIlroy And Patrick Kenny swop roles for the new comedy drama Yesterday’s Hero. Festival icon McIlroy has been coxed from the stage into the directors seat so writer/director Kenny can have turn to play with the audience. The McIlroy and Kenny collaboration has seen a series of hit one-man plays performed by McIlroy at the festival: The Apology selected for the main curated festival 2021; ADHD and multi-award winning Comedy Master Class.

About the Artists

Patrick Kenny is a writer, director and actor. He lives in Durban with his wife Shannon and daughter Anna. His short story "Lowering The Bar" was published in the inaugural edition of the Imbiza Journal for African Writing 2021. "The Apology" which Patrick wrote and directed, was selected and performed for the Main Curated Festival 2021 National Arts Festival (NAF).

Patrick is the director and co-writer of a series of one-man plays with comedian Aaron McIlroy: ADHD (2018 -2019) ; Comedy Master Class - Durban Theatre Awards 7 Nominations, 4 Awards including Best Production (2016 - 2017) and The Happy Clapper (2014 - 2015). Patrick also appeared in eTV's Inbewu as Dr Wallace for 2 seasons. He is currently lecturing at the The International School of Performing Arts (ISPA)

 

Aaron McIlroy is better know as Mr Milton - Spud's Dad in all 3 SPUD movies. Aaron has appeared in a host of tv roles including Desmond Dube’s comedy show Karektas on SABC 2. Aaron has been producing and performing at the NAF for over 30 years. Productions include: The Loser; Abbamaniacs; Marriage For Dummies and many more.
