House of Truth
Theatre / Centenary Hall

The House of Truth is a bio-play written by Dr. Siphiwo Mahala that explores the life and legacy of the renowned South African writer and intellectual, Can Themba.

The play delves into the "construction, destruction and reconstruction" of Themba's life and the "House of Truth", a place where intellectuals and truth-seekers would gather in apartheid-era Sophiatown. It examines Themba's role as a leading figure in this intellectual hub and the impact it had on his personal and professional life.

The play has been critically acclaimed, with reviewers praising the powerful performance of actor Sibuyiselo Dywili as Can Themba. Mahala's work has been recognised for its ability to capture the complexities of Themba's life and the turbulent social and political context of the time. The House of Truth is a thought-provoking exploration of the life and legacy of one of South Africa's most influential writers and intellectuals, offering insights into the challenges and triumphs of navigating the apartheid era.
