Wamkelwa: A Visionary Musician, Producer and Ambassador of African Creativity
Wamkelwa is a talented musician, filmmaker, writer, and entrepreneur from the Eastern Cape, South Africa. Born in 1995 in Kwanobuhle, Uitenhage, she draws inspiration from her life experiences and the world around her to craft music that heals and uplifts.
Wamkelwa's music combines African fusion, jazz, folklore, and alternative genres, featuring vocals, percussion, and traditional African instruments. Her production style is organic, earthy, and spiritual, influenced by African traditional music, jazz, folklore, and alternative sounds. She has collaborated with her band, Manyange, and The Black Power Station, producing notable works such as "Isingqi Sakwantu".
Wamkelwa has graced stages at notable festivals, including the National Arts Festival (2018), Woman in Arts Manyano (2022), and PE Splash Festival (2023). She has also participated in esteemed programs like The Host Your Show Participant by One Blood Productions' "The One Room" (2023). In early 2024, Wamkelwa hosted "Isingqi Sakwantu," a production in collaboration with The Black Power Station during the "Ubuhlanti Exhibition" in Makhanda, further solidifying her impact on the artistic landscape. She will be performing at the National Arts Festival 2024, with her production "Isingqi Sakwantu" being a definite highlight not to be missed.
Wamkelwa's music is spiritually grounded in her African heritage and belief, proudly celebrating Africanism and aiming to empower and spread love globally.
