This is the story of the big Ntombela clan of eMazibukweni, known for its bravery and pride in its history, culture, traditions and customs. This clan comprised 15 strong and respected heads of homesteads spread over the hills and valleys of Emazibukweni.
We follow the life of Felukwenzani, one chosen by the ancestors from the Ntombela clan to perform a ritual for his grandfather, uNkom'empunga, who died in World War II. This comes after Felukwenzani had been troubled by weird dreams for quite some time. Following the advice of his elder brother, Mthof’ozigidi, he consulted a well known and respected sangoma both to confirm the significance of the special ritual, and to comprehend the meaning and substance of his dreams.
Without a shadow of a doubt, the sangoma confirmed that indeed Felukwenzani was chosen from amongst the Ntombela clan to perform this very significant ritual. After several meetings with the whole clan trying to collect contributions nothing happened because no one was willing to pay.
Haunted by the dreams, Felukwenzani resolved to do the ritual despite the lack of financial contributions. This caused anxiety and resistance within the Ntombela clan homesteads. Some argued that Felukwenzani did not have a right to perform the special ritual because he was not directly from uNkom'empunga homestead.
