Renowned actress, Bo Petersen, returns to SA to share an intimate family history of the emotional challenges of living secretly in a mixed race family under apartheid. This evocative and mesmerising one-woman show is her renegotiation with the past. It captures the themes of exclusion, threats and silences, experienced by marginalised people throughout the world. Life-affirming and inspiring, the play also conveys the traumas and tragedies of apartheid and its legacy through a moving personal narrative.
Pieces of Me has performed at the Nordic Black Theatre (Norway), South Bend Civic Theatre (Indiana, USA) and Ö2scenkonst Theatre (Sweden). It has been described as "a delicately drawn portrayal of personal and family pain, without anger or blame” and "an explosive introspection…(that) creates a space of remembrance where a performer carries the family's history.” - Scenekunst review by Grace Tabea Tenga.
"No one ever talks about the moment you found that you were white. Or the moment you found out you were black. That’s a profound revelation. The minute you find that out, something happens. You have to renegotiate everything." - TONI MORRISON
