Dumza Maswana

Dumza Maswana, a passionate musician and a mentor to young artists, born in Ngqushwa, Eastern Cape, is known for his soothing baritone voice and fusion of tradition, spirituality, soul, and jazz to create sonic experiences that uplift, inspire, and heal. He writes and sings from a place of experience; paying homage to his culture. He was taught the art of storytelling and singing by his grandmother, and further inspired by Victor Ntoni, Jabu Khanyile, and Ringo Madlingozi. He formed a group called Healing Voices at 17, before moving to Johannesburg to further his music.

His debut album, Molo, was nominated for SAMA awards and his song "The Letter" won Best Jazz Song at the 2017 Mzansi Jazz Awards. His other notable works include Emihle and Nomthandazo, played in over 17 radio stations. Dumza has performed at various festivals globally, including the Edinburgh Festival in Scotland and the Sing! Festival in Toronto, Canada, the National Arts Festival. He has collaborated with South Africa's most illustrious musicians, including Thandiswa Mazwai, Simphiwe Dana, Ringo Madlingozi, Tshepo Tshola, Sphokazi, the Jaziel Brothers, Mafikizolo, and Victor Ntoni. He has worked with DJ Mobi Dixon, DJ Palture, Black Motion and Banda Banda.

He has also opened up for international musicians Kenny Lattimore and Chanté Moore. Dumza recently released his third studio album, "Celebrating African Song," produced by Andile Yenana. He is also a jazz music presenter on Umhlobo Wenene FM, where his show plays South African Jazz and profiles SA Jazz musicians. Dumza continues to produce nominated and award-winning music.
