Ntakana
Thembela Madliki
Theatre / Princess Alice

Ntakana uses the visual metaphor of the bird to explore the Greek myth of Philomela. In the production, Ntaka, created in the likeness of Philomela, embodies a young woman struggling to take flight amidst personal turmoil and chaos. Her quest for flight becomes an all-consuming obsession, resulting in her selective mutism. In the silence, Ntaka’s physical form becomes the canvas for her innermost desires, mirroring the grace and freedom of the bird as she seeks to transcend her tumultuous reality.
