Igazi Lase Senqu (Orange River)

Theatre / Amazwi

This production is set in the early 1800s, and describes the life of Bantu civilizations at a time when the Western world was being introduced.

Six different tribes living in the Drakensberg Mountains were involved in a scramble for power, love and peace. According to History the amaHlubi, BaSotho, BaTlokoa, BaPhuthi and amaXhosa tribes tried to make peace in this land as the rivers changed colour due to the constant blood spilled because of war. When they learned that a new enemy was coming to exterminate them, armed with more powerful weapons and enough firepower to make them extinct, they organised a peace treaty in which the young daughter of the Sotho King was to marry the young Prince of amaHlubi.

Things don’t go according to plan however. Murder is committed at the ceremony and once again the quest for peace is disrupted and the enemy is closer than ever.

This production goes back in time through dance and music.
