About the Artists

Director: Mimi Mokoena is a 23-year-old performing artist and the director of "Siyaphanda." Under her leadership, the production has received accolades at various festivals, including winning Best Production at the YaRona Youth Festival 2025. She has also choreographed and performed in multiple shows, showcasing her versatility as both a director and actress. Notable performances include roles in "Breaking The Curse" and "Exiomatic Truth." Mimi is passionate about using the arts to empower and inspire her community.

 

Mentor: Maseng "Jacky" Jacob Moshane is a remarkable theatre practitioner and mentor for the "Siyaphanda" production. Once a gang leader and a promising soccer star, he turned his life around after a life-changing experience in 2004, dedicating himself to theatre as a writer and director. Under his leadership, he has won 25 trophies in competitions both locally and nationally. Jacky has also showcased his talent in various films, including "Phaleho," "Lingashoni," and "The Wife." His journey is a testament to resilience and the transformative power of the arts.

 

Writer & supporting actor: Sinalo Mtshawulana is a 28-year-old performing artist, supporting actor, and writer for "Siyaphanda." Collaborating with director Mimi Mokoena, he has showcased his work at prestigious festivals, including the Homebrew Festival and the Ya Rona Youth Festival, where "Siyaphanda" won Best Production. Sinalo has also directed and choreographed various productions, earning accolades for his impactful contributions to theatre. His dedication to the arts extends to mentoring young talent through community programs. With a passion for storytelling, Sinalo continues to inspire audiences and fellow artists alike.

 

Main Actor: Mokete James Nhlapo is a theatrical virtuoso known for his ability to bring characters to life with a rich palette of emotions. His journey began in 2014 with Mzansi Youth Innovation, where he honed his craft and embraced diverse roles. Notable performances include "My Valentine's," "LGBTQI+," and "Siyaphanda," showcasing his versatility across genres. Mokete's talent has earned him several accolades, including a Best Production Award at the Yarona Festival in 2025. With a commitment to storytelling, he continues to inspire audiences and fellow artists alike.

 

Stage Manager: Dieketseng Lekoala is a 23 year old, a dynamic contemporary dancer and stage manager of Siyaphanda Production, known for her passion for the arts. Transitioning from dance to theater in 2024, she quickly took on the role of stage manager, showcasing her versatility and leadership. Dieketseng has performed as a contemporary dancer at various venues, securing 1st position at the DSACR competitions, and played the role of Buhle in "Suicide Note." Her contributions to "Siyaphanda" have been recognized with multiple awards, including Best Production at the YARONA Youth Festival in 2025. With a commitment to excellence, Dieketseng continues to make her mark in the performing arts.
