My Grandfather's Dancing Shoes
FELICITY ARTS THEATRE
Theatre for Children & Young People / PJ'S

This well choreographed dance production is performed by energetic and vibrant youth who want to put the Eastern Cape on the map of South Africa and the world!

The story revolves around an old man who passed away in the 80's. He was well known in his township because of his dance moves. He specialised in all kinds of dance, from Isipantsula, Township, and Contemporary dance, through to Traditional dance and Hip hop. Everyone loved this old man because he was entertaining wherever he went.

The old man loved to compete and challenge other dancers, confident that he was the best. At competitions, he wore his exceptionally lucky, famous dancing shoes, and he would always win. His great dance moves kept everyone happy.

One day the old man slept and never woke up again, but before he passed away, he gave his grandson the famous shoes which he believed were the reason he could dance and win competitions. The grandson did not disappoint the grandfather's wish and continued his legacy.

Now the grandson takes us on a journey exploring the life of his grandfather through dance, showing how his grandfather used to "shake" the stage, showcasing various African dances and how they have been modernised since the 80's.
