UKUZILANDA
POT OF MOVING ARTS
Dance & Physical Theatre / PJ'S

Where does one belong? Ukuzilanda, which translates to 'fetch oneself', is a journey of self-discovery, to find a sense of belonging, and to find ways to stay true to oneself despite social pressures and inner struggles.

Inspired by the archive, the piece further reflects on the routes and roots of returning to one’s origins as a way to understand and redefine self-identity in a modern context. The piece interrogates how one can belong, without losing oneself. How does one feel rooted to culture and identity even when far away from home? Ukuzilanda unpacks the themes of personal struggle, home versus belonging, identity, language and dignity through movement, text and music.
