Set between the landscapes of KwaZulu-Natal and the hyper-modern Johannesburg, this bold satire unpacks the chaotic collision between tradition and modernity in contemporary South Africa. Told through the perspective of a 21-year-old girl navigating these two vastly different worlds, the piece interrogates the layered, often contradictory forces imposed on women — particularly around African cultural expectations, purity culture, and evolving ideas of sex, body autonomy, and self-identity.
The work delves into how these forces shape and restrict women's experiences, desires and choices. It explores how young women are expected to uphold cultural ideals of purity and obedience, while simultaneously facing the pressures of a modern society that promises liberation.
