Vakavigwa (Burials/They Were Buried)
Campbel Meas and National Playwright Competition
Theatre / Centenary Hall

Justice and accountability are never simple. A year after the murder of a young Zimbabwean student on contested land, Detective Khanyi Mohau is forced to confront the limits of duty, loyalty, and truth. Torn between her roles as a police officer, daughter, wife, and woman, Khanyi must decide who is responsible — risking her career and community ties.

Meanwhile, Elizabeth Rankin, a consultant on the development site, must face the possibility that her silence has made her complicit in both a murder and the erasure of a community’s ancestral grounds.

As hidden truths come to the surface, both women are forced to confront the cost of their choices — and ask: who is justice really for?
