Solitude
Spark in the Dark
Theatre / Gymnasium

Who am I when no one is in the room? Solitude, written and performed by Kamogelo Mhlantla, and directed by Qondiswa James, is a new solo show that tackles the relationship between a person and their mental health. Of finding solace in the darkness, with an overwhelming wave of terror around you.

The production is a semi-autobiographical piece, which touches on mental health and the struggles one tackles on ones own. It's a thought-provoking show, which encourages audience members to reflect on their own experiences with isolation and battling with demons.

Kamogelo explores the vastness of being inside one’s own head and navigating the space while coming to terms with the loneliness one feels both alone and in crowded rooms. The feeling of drowning while gasping for air, of reaching for a safety net when you’re about to fall.

Solitude opens the conversation on how one deals with moments of silence and the approach you need to better understand yourself. Being in your own head full of darkness can be difficult, but knowing there are healthy ways in which you can handle it, with the correct tools, you will find answers can come from within.
