...you can choose your friends, but you can't choose your family...
Kompoun by Ronelda Kamfer is a poignant novel narrated by children Nadia and Xavie, exploring themes of innocence, resilience, and familial struggles within the harsh South African context.
The narrative intertwines personal experiences with cultural nuances, showcasing the beauty and complexity of the Afrikaans language. Staged theatre-in-the-round, the “plaashek” gives us direct access to both the internal and external factors affecting the lives of the characters, and the choice to dismantle the lies that sustains the McKinney family feud.
