In the rural village of Kwaka-Kum land, 30 years of waiting for development and service delivery have left the community frustrated and desperate. Against this backdrop, Kimbo Karuro, a skilled warrior, farmer, and hunter, emerges as a beacon of hope. Working under the tyrannical Chief Ke-Komkulu, who prioritises power and foreign alliances over the welfare of his people, Kimbo defies the king's oppressive laws.
As Kimbo's actions spark rebellion, he becomes the target of the royal house's elite warriors. With his life on the line, Kimbo must navigate the treacherous landscape of Kwaka-Kum land, where punishment or execution awaits those who dare to challenge the status quo.
"I Was Told" is an action-drama thriller that explores themes of belief, freedom, nature, survival, and democracy. As Kimbo fights for justice and the future of his community, the play raises important questions about power, corruption, and the human spirit.
