The Lucas Avenue Footpath begins at the upper fence line of the Botanical Gardens, right at the intersection of Lucas and Rhodes Avenues. From there, it climbs steeply up the hillside toward the Monument, ultimately emerging at Fort Selwyn and the war memorial adjacent to the main Monument Building. While the path is relatively short at roughly 260 meters, it features a brisk 27-meter incline. Visitors are strongly advised to wear sturdy, appropriate footwear. Those with mobility constraints or limited fitness should not attempt the route.
