Formed in 2022, the Maritzburg College Jazz Ensemble showcases the school’s top music students with a passion for jazz and ensemble performance. Under the direction of David Solomon, they’ve performed at events like MiTH (Hilton) and the 2024 NYJF. Their repertoire spans jazz standards and local favourites, delivered with soul, skill, and a unique personal flair.
The Outeniqua High Jazz Band, led by Lynette Petersen, is a vibrant 12-piece ensemble from George known for its dynamic blend of marabi, mbaqanga, Cape jazz, and contemporary fusion. These talented young musicians have impressed at events like the Prince Albert Journey to Jazz Festival and Stellenbosch University’s Ensemble Competition. Their performances radiate youthful energy, creativity, and a deep respect for South Africa’s jazz heritage.
