Rooilug is a one man show that tells stories of the effect of domestic abuse and rape on families within the smaller communities in South Africa in a light-hearted manner.
The production is written, directed and performed by one of the Free State's/Eastern Cape's most talented theatre practitioners, Jefferson J. Dirks-Korkee, and produced by Flipping the Scripts and PENM Productions. The production debuted at the Vrystaat Arts Festival 2018 Vrynge programme, and was well received by the audiences, with three standing ovations and an unscheduled showcase for festival directors from around the country.
Following the successful run of the production at the Free Vrystaat Arts Festival, the production toured nationally and internationally. It has also been adapted as a movie for DSTv, and as book, published in both Afrikaans en English.
Besides the National Arts Festival (Eastern Cape) this one-man show is also scheduled to tour in 2026, to the Free-State, Nothern Cape, and Gauteng. The private schools use Rooilug as a framework of excellent South African Theatre.
