Andile Yenana and Dumza Maswana duo in Ihambo yeNgoma
The Black Power Station
The Black Power Station Session / The Black Power Station

Legendary South African jazz pianist Andile Yenana and the Barefoot baritone of Ngqushwa, Dumza Maswana reunite again at the National Arts Festival (NAF) live at The Balck Power Station after a successful collaboration that birthed Dumza's studio album 'Celebrating African Song' back in 2021.” Now you get to see them Live at The Black Power Station, as they venture into something deeper telling their stories and lifting heritage through ingoma as a duo.

"Doing this with uTshawe, Andile Yenana, one of the greats who made me fall deeply in love with the African Jazz sound, is truly a blessing", says Dumza Maswana. Yenana hails from eZwelitsha, eQonce, just 60km from eNgqushwa. These are different places in the Eastern Cape, but share the same stories and folksongs. A conversation on Voice. Piano. Uhadi. A remembering. A musical journey rooted in storytelling, memory, jazz and African song. This work is about doing our part to preserve the memory of our people, the stories from the villages, the quieter stories, the ones too often overlooked. We want them to live beyond us and remain with the next generations. Through ingoma, we hope people can see the beauty, strength and humanity of our foremothers and forefathers again. The music is our way of honouring where we come from, and making sure our roots are never forgotten.
